Pennsylvania Independant Oil & Gas Association (PIOGA) is the principal nonprofit trade association representing Pennsylvania’s independent oil and natural gas producers, marketers, service companies and related businesses. PIOGA member companies drill and operate the majority of the state’s crude oil and natural gas. In their words, “The Pennsylvania Independent Oil and Gas Association can be viewed as quite simply the producers association directed by producers for the benefit of producers.”
The current iteration of PIOGA began in 2010, as a result of a merging of the Independent Oil & Gas Association of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Oil & Gas Association. The origins of PIOGA as a trade association, however, go back to 1918, with the founding of Pennsylvania Oil, Gas, & Mineral Association. POGAM is purportedly one of the oldest oil and gas trade associations in the United States. [1]
Currently, PIOGA operates out of Wexford, PA, from which it plans a variety of community and industry-specific events, educational seminars, and trade shows in order to further oil and gas interests in Pennsylvania. Its board members include representatives from various natural gas producers, including Consol Energy, Seneca Resources Corp., Chief Oil and Gas, XTO Energy, and Penneco Oil Company.[2] A full list of participating producers is restricted to the public.[3]
