| Operator has come in and removed oily leaves, still some oily stains around edges of upper pit. Has seeded, mulched around both pits in hopes of making them look better - claims frogs living in lower pit and water not salty. Will see how the grass grows before further comments. | | Operator has come in and removed oily leaves, still some oily stains around edges of upper pit. | Inspection this day found well on Holstein Lease, producing with jack, owner is Steve Joy, unregistered owner. Good ID's, tank needs dike. Other well, #62373 to south is also owned by Joy, Wayne National Forest says. MIKE - #62373 is plotting right on location so you may want to give new permit number or use one from surounding area. I did not find well #62372 so could use it. | | Inspection this day found well on Holstein Lease, producing with jack, owner is Steve Joy, unregistered owner. Good ID's, tank needs dike. − | + | | Received complaint from EPA regarding oily mess at tank. Upon inspection, found tank with very little dike, breached on low side and water being drained into pit. There was an oily, depressed area directly below the tank that had once been used to drain water in - now water going further downslope into bigger (6' x 4') pit. Talked to owner, Steve Joy, and he said Forest Service was OK with the pit. I told him our policy was to no longer use pits and that a complaint had been received. Asked him if house gas being provided and he said no, so well is not exempt Mississippian. Steve said he would go out today and keep up the leave-soaked oily spot to make it look better - he said frogs living in that pit. I had noticed what looked like dead trees below the pit but will wait until trees bud out to see how many, if any dead. Will go back next week and check - it was noted that Steve had planted several trees around the tank in an attempt to make the area look better. Told him also he needed to be bonded and insured. Called and let message for Dennis Deaver of what was found, work requested done. 4/6/09 - Operator has come in and removed oily leaves in upper pit - still some oil staining around edges. He has seeded and mulched around the pits in hopes of making them look better | |
