| Arrived onsite for a routine inspection after fracturing operations with Sara Metz and Jon Sassi, both DEP. Chesapeake (CHK) company man David Gregory was onsite during the inspection. Crown Oilfield was also onsite welding pipeline for the installation of production equipment.
 +

 +
We spoke with Mr. Gregory for several minutes. During our conversation he explained that the well had been fractured and the fracturing plugs drilled out. However, the well had not yet been flowed back. The flow back should probably start in the next few weeks. He also informed us that the same containment was used during fracturing and completion of the well.
 +

 +
During our inspection, areas for production equipment were being marked out and the production pipeline was being welded. This site with have the new fiberglass produced water tanks that CHK has begun using on other sites. Overall, the site vegetation was over 70% with a few exceptions along the inside of the pad containment berm (Photos #6, 7). These areas should be addressed

| At 11:02 on 10/29/18 Eric Hottenstein, Environmental Supervisor for Chesapeake (CHK), contacted Jon Sassi (DEP) regarding a routine inspection performed by Department representatives Mike Jurbala, Jon Sassi, and Sara Metz on 10/24/18, ID# 2794448. During the 10/24/18 inspection the Department observed an area of high conductivity water (>20.00 mS/cm) on and off secondary containment. Mr. Hottenstein informed Jon that CHK used a vac truck to remove the high conductivity water on containment and the pad surface on 10/24/18. A total of 14.6 gallons of water was removed from an area 3” wide X 5” long X 2” deep. Leidos was onsite conducting conductivity screening with a YSI meter. They were using a 1:1 soil to distilled water ratio for the soil conductivity measurements. The soil readings were around 100 µS/cm. Leidos then collected 2 confirmation samples. The containment did not appear to be compromised when it was removed. It is possible that fluid spilled on containment overflowed the berm due to heavy rainfal

| Sample results were received from sample ID# 0719-001, 0719-002, and 0719-003, all collected on 10/24/18. Sample ID# 0719-001 and 0719-002 were collected from containment and an area immediately off containment. These results show elevated levels of strontium, barium, and chlorides which are indicative of a release of wastewater to the pad surface. Sample ID# 0719-003 was collected at the pad corner to serve as background and shows much lower levels of the mentioned analytes.
 +

 +
The Department recommends reporting all spills or releases within 2 hours of discovery.
 +

 +
The Department also recommends that Chesapeake pursue remediation under Act 2 due to the unknown volume of the release.
 +

 +
The result of this Administrative inspection is Violations Noted.

2796448 Primary Facility 2018-10-29 Follow-up Inspection Pending At 11:02 on 10/29/18 Eric Hottenstein, Environmental Supervisor for Chesapeake (CHK), contacted Jon Sassi (DEP) regarding a routine inspection performed by Department representatives Mike Jurbala, Jon Sassi, and Sara Metz on 10/24/18, ID# 2794448.
2806689 Primary Facility 2018-11-27 Administrative/File Review Violation(s) Noted Sample results were received from sample ID# 0719-001, 0719-002, and 0719-003, all collected on 10/24/18.

The Department recommends reporting all spills or releases within 2 hours of discovery.

The Department also recommends that Chesapeake pursue remediation under Act 2 due to the unknown volume of the release.

The result of this Administrative inspection is Violations Noted.
