1190741741 | 2007-09-25 | Drill / Deepen / Reopen | No Violations | Met with Jimmy Dixon on site from Cap Star. I spoke to Jimmy regarding what had happen on site. Jimmy informed me that they were drilling on air when they hit the gas at 3493. They loaded the hole with salt water. They hit the gas at 9:30am. I was on site at 11:30 am, at that time they were mixing salt into the drilling fluid, fluid weight was 9.8 lbs per gallon, per the rig hand. At the time of that inspection they had salt water and drill mud ordered. During my meeting on this day, I informed Jimmy, that Cap Star should have already been on fluid 200 feet into the Big lime. Also that drill mud should have been on site and ready to go, incase gas was encountered. This site should not have had any air drilling on it. House to the south is less than 150 from the well. Pits are not sufficiently constructed for air, there is a backstop 5 in height that is not tall enough to prevent dust from being blown into the woods south of pits. Pit liners have slipped on the south side of blow pit. Bank of the pit has been eroded due to the gas and fluid form the blow line hitting the side of the pit. Blow pit has overflowed. Operator is in the process of cleaning up the site. Jimmy thought that the gas was coming from the Bass Lake formation, they have not drilled into the Newburg at this time. They are above the Newburg. |
