0602849427 2017-06-27 Production Wells No Violations I got a call from Rick Smith to ask if I could meet him at the well site to inspect the clean-up around the wellhead. I found that he had a dump truck and back-hoe on site and they had excavated all of the oil impacted soil from around the wellhead. They had a load of fresh top soil to fill in the area. Ricks assistant spread lime on the excavated area before they put the clean soil down. The violation for pollution and contamination is resolved.
1465370931 2017-05-22 Production Wells No Violations I called Rick Smith to ask if he had taken care of the oil around the wellhead. He said that he was out last week. When I inspected the site I found that there was still a substantial amount of oil staining coming up through the new soil that had been spread over the area. I dug into the soil with a shovel and found multiple pockets of crude oil saturated soil and vegetation that had been covered up. I called Rick and told him what I had found. I requested that he come back out to remove all of the oily soil, rather than covering it up. I also requested that he contact me to inspect the site before he puts any new soil back down.
1481303892 2016-12-09 Production Wells Violations Noted On the day of my inspection I found that the well was equipped with an electric powered pumping unit. The motor, drive belts and electric were all intact. The flow lines were connected and the valves were open. The stuffing box had been leaking and there was a 6 foot by 6 foot area of crude oil on the ground around the wellhead. The tank battery consisted of one 100 barrel steel tank and one vertical separator in an earthen dike. Correct, legible identification was posted and there were no leaks or spills at around the production equipment. I called Rick Smith who claimed he was aware of the issue. He said that the oil is so thick that it wont go through the separator and it blew out of the stuffing box. He said that he was on his way out with some saw dust to cover it up over the weekend, and he would be back out next week to clean it all up.
1776083365 2017-01-24 Production Wells No Violations On the day of my inspection I found that the oil had been covered with a pile of sawdust. The oil had not been cleaned up, but it was all soaked in to the sawdust. I found no signs of oil migrating from the immediate area. I called Rick Smith and he said that he will get in to remove the oil as soon as it either freezes or dries up. The well is located downhill behind a home and the yard would be damaged by bringing equipment in right now with the recent wet weather.
