0662013911 | 2018-10-01 | Production Wells | No Violations | On the day of my inspection I found that there was a bare, muddy area, approximately 40 feet long and 15 feet wide running parallel with the pumping unit. The area was heavily tracked by deer. I used high range Quantab strips in two different locations and found the chloride level to be 0.066% NaCl or 402 ppm(mg/L). The well location is uphill from a private pond. The bare soil did not extend to the pond, it was all on the flat well site. I did not find any signs that the wellhead components were leaking. The lines were all connected and the valves were closed. I also did not find any signs that there had been a leak from the two 100 barrel tanks. The dike was clean and there were no brine scalds present in the vegetation around the dike wall. I called Jeff Gress to ask about the well. He said that he was in the hospital and he would have to call someone to go look at it. He also said that the pump was down in this well and he has not pumped it in a year. I called Chad Gress and left a message. I also tried to call Brian Darr because the well is on his property, but he did not have voice mail. Chad Gress returned my call and said that he would be out to look at it. |

1292277382 | 2015-01-14 | Production Wells | No Violations | On the day of my inspection I found that the wellhead was equipped with a pumping unit. The tank battery consisted of two 100 barrel tanks, one separator and an earthen dike. Proper identification was posted and I found no leaks or spills. |
1434671711 | 2019-04-08 | Production Wells | No Violations | On the day of my inspection I found that the top layer of soil had been scraped off and stockpiled for remediation. There was also a French drain in place at the north side of the site. The area was still muddy from the recent rain. I called Brian Darr and he said that he did the work, and he was waiting for it to dry out some before finishing. He said that they were going to treat the stockpiled soil with lime and then he was going to use it on the access road. They are also putting stone down to improve the road and on site parking. The load of stone was already delivered to t he site. He said that they will get the stone down as soon as Miller Oil gets their well plugged and moves out. |
1610739228 | 2018-10-02 | Production Wells | No Violations | On the day of my inspection I met Jason Blocker at the site to probe the affected soil with a conductivity meter to determine the extent of the chlorides in the soil. As we walked around and probed the soil we noticed pieces of pit liner that were exposed in the soil. I pulled up Google Earth to search the historical satellite images of the well. I found that the April 2006 image clearly showed the fluid drilling pit in the exact location where the brine impact is evident. There is a natural ground seep of fresh water that is running across the old pit site. That water is picking up chlorides as it runs across the soil. We did a background on a nearby stream and the water showed 0.3 to 0.4 conductivity. The ground water flowing across the old pit site was also at 0.3 to 0.4 conductivity at the point of origin. Once it settled into the deer hoof prints in the soil, the water went up to 4.4 conductivity. The darkest soil at the center of the bare area showed up at 7.5 conductivity. I called Chad Gress to ask if he had been out to the site yet. He said that they were planning to come out today to put some fresh soil down and re-seed the area. I gave Chad my hypothesis that the brine impact area is a result of the old drilling pit. I told him that they will need to excavate the affected soil. He said that they would meet me out there with the equipment. Jeff and Chad Gress showed up with a track hoe. Jeff claimed that he had all the fluid drained off the pit when he drilled the well in 2006, and the only thing that would be buried is old drill cuttings. Jeff agreed to take the top layer of soil off the old pit area and spread fresh soil over it. He also came up with a plan to dig a shallow diversion trench to bring the ground water around the old pit to keep the area dry. Jeff said that he would get the site remediated tomorrow and get it seeded so it can start growing this fall. |

2003063704 | 2018-10-03 | Production Wells | No Violations | On the day of my inspection I found that Gresss track hoe was still at the site, but no work had been started. I spoke to the landowner, Brian Darr, who said that he was going to do the excavating himself. He did not want Jeff digging a trench and he did not want him excavating the old pit area. Brian said that he was going to put a tile and sand in to divert the spring water. He also said that he would be the one to remove the affected layer of soil and put new soil down, as well as seeding the site with grass. I asked Brian how soon he would be getting started and he said he would try to get it done very soon. |
