0490293577 2017-09-29 Orphan No Violations Orphan well investigation in response to a request from Mr. Phil Cantino of The Athens Conservancy: Upon inspection of the location, it is observed that a slight surface subsidence approximately 2 feet in diameter and 1 foot in depth is present in close proximity to the platted coordinates for this well. Division records show that a total depth of 1328 feet was reached in this well on 6/24/1950 and the well was declared a dry hole. The well was then plugged with prepared clay on 6/28/1950. It appears that the surface subsidence is from mild settling of the clay plugging material over the years. No oil, gas, brine, or fresh water is observed to be leaking from the subsided area. No production equipment or flow lines are present at or near the location. Mr. Cantino is advised that the well currently poses very little or no risk to public health or the environment, but if the subsidence ever worsens or if the well begins to leak oil, gas, or brine, to contact the Division again. Photos were taken of the location.
