I found no fresh vehicle or ATV tracks leading back to the wellhead. The well was equipped with an electric powered pumping unit. The motor, drive belts and electric line were intact. The circuit box was filled with debris and inhabited by an active field mouse colony. The breaker switch was in the off position. The lines were connected at the wellhead, and the valve to the flow line was open. There was also a plastic gas line running off the same casing line. The polished rod and stuffing box were both dry, and showed no signs of recent use. I found no leaks or spills around the wellhead. The production equipment consisted of one 100 barrel steel tank, one underground concrete brine vault, one vertical separator and a compressor. The lines were all connected and the gauge on the compressor showed 40 pounds. The tank was slightly less than half full of fluid. I found no leaks around the equipment and correct, legible identification was posted. The annual production shows zero barrels of oil and zero cubic feet of gas reported for this well since 2011. A local resident happened to stop while I was conducting the inspection. He said that he does not know of anyone who receives domestic gas from this well, and he has not observed anyone at the well site since they painted the tank in 2015. I called the number for Greenfields Oil in RBDMS and the woman who answered the phone said it was Hothem Realty. She transferred me to another woman when I asked about Greenfields Oil. The second woman acknowledged that the well in question has not been producing for some time, and she aid that she would pass my number on to the owner Hugh Hothem, and he would call me back because he was out of town. |

I have been trying to get ahold of Hugh Hothem since my previous inspection. Hugh returned my call and he did not dispute the idle status of the well. Greenfields Oil has 3 producing wells in the State, 2 in Coshocton County and 1 in Knox County. Hugh said that he has been working with George Camphire to assess the production potential of the wells, and to plug the ones that are no longer viable. He said that he can only afford to plug one well a year. We exchanged contact information and we agreed to keep an open line of communication with regards to well assessments and getting the wells plugged that need it. |
