0301411180 | 2018-08-20 | Production Wells | Violations Noted | On the day of my inspection I found that the well was equipped with an electric powered pumping unit. The motor, drive belts and electric were intact. The flow lines were connected, the valves were open, and the polished rod showed signs of recent use. Casing gas venting through a pop-off valve. There was also a house gas line and drip at the wellhead. The stuffing box was leaking, and the wellhead components were covered with oily sludge. There was a two-foot diameter circle of oily sludge on the ground around the wellhead. The production equipment consisted of two 100-barrel steel tanks in a shallow earthen dike, back near the wellhead. I found no leaks or spills around the tanks. There was no identification posted on the tanks or pumping unit. There was also one 100-barrel steel tank and one 20-barrel poly tank at the end of the access drive off TR 396. There were no leaks or spills around the steel tank and there was an identification sign posted on the tank ladder. The poly tank was cracked in multiple places and it was half full of fluid. The fluid level was at the bottom of the lowest crack and there was a water stain running down the side of the tank from the bottom of the crack. There was some minor staining in the soil around the tank, but I did not find any significant signs of brine stress in the surrounding vegetation. I tested the water in the tank for the chloride content with a Quantab strip. The strip showed 0.404% NaCl, or 2449 ppm(mg/L) Cl content. The actions that are needed to bring this well into compliance are as follows: 1. Drain and remove the cracked poly tank at the end of the drive. 2. Clean the oily sludge from the wellhead and the surrounding soil. 3. Post correct, legible identification at the production tanks that are located near the wellhead. |

2059589102 | 2018-09-12 | Production Wells | No Violations | On the day of my inspection I found that the cracked poly tank was gone, and the soil had been excavated from where the tank was sitting. Correct, legible identification had been posted at the production tanks back near the wellhead. The compliance notice is resolved. |
