0620418853 2017-05-31 Production Wells No Violations I got a phone call from Aaron Austin with Mason Producing to notify me that they had remediated the dike. He said that they removed the tanks and excavated 15 tons of soil from in and around the dike. Then they rebuilt the dike wall, installed new gravel, and reset the tanks. On the day of my inspection I found that the area around the dike wall and inside of the dike showed signs of recent excavation. There was a track-hoe on site. The tanks had been reset on blocks and new gravel. There was also new gravel spread on the lease road in front of the dike. The entire area was dry at the time of my inspection. I will return after the next rain to re-check the dike for chlorides.
0666499306 2017-07-27 Production Wells No Violations On the day of my inspection I found that the dike was dry. The tanks were both elevated and there were no stains in the new gravel. There were no signs of brine stress in the vegetation around the dike or along the sides of the lease road. I found no deer tracks or signs of scraping in the soil around the dike. The compliance notice is resolved.
0672672039 2017-05-23 Production Wells Violations Noted On the day of my inspection I found that the well was equipped with a plunger lift system. The flow lines were connected and the valves were open. The production equipment consisted of one 100 barrel steel tank, one 30 barrel steel tank and one horizontal separator. The tank and separator were in separate earthen dikes. The dike around the tanks was full of water that was cloudy and had an orange hue. I did not observe any tadpoles or invertebrates in the water. The water was leaching through the front corner of the dike. The area was muddy, and full of deer tracks. There was also a congregation of honey bees around the mud. There was a visible fluid path across the lease road and into a small field, but I did not find a noticeable impact to the field vegetation. I tested the dike water with a high range Quantab test strip and found the chloride level to be at 4121 ppm(mg/L) or 0.679% NaCl. I met with Aaron Austin, field supervisor for Mason Producing while on site to witness plugging operations on the Reiss #2. When I brought the issue to Aarons attention he claimed that the dike has historically held water, and he had recently tasted the water but did not taste salt. I told him that the Quantab is showing chlorides and they need to clean the dike up. Aaron had a vacuum truck from B&J Drilling drain the tank and the dike. He said that he wanted to monitor it for 24 hours to identify a possible leak in the equipment. We agreed that they would remove the tanks and excavate the brine saturated soil from in and around the dike. Then they will rebuild the dike and fill the bottom with gravel to elevate the tanks.

1495741014 2017-05-25 Production Wells No Violations On the day of my inspection I met Aaron Austin at the tank battery. The dike was mostly dry except for a some shallow pools of water that the truck could not get. Aaron started to dispute the presence of chlorides in the water again, so I ran four more high range Quantabs in random spots around the dike. The test strips all showed chlorides ranging from 3700 to >6907 ppm(mg/L). I told Mr. Austin that they need to remove the tanks, flush the dike with fresh water and vacuum it out. Then they are to excavate the soil and gravel from inside of the dike, along the walls and the bottom, as well as the small area of saturated soil that I found outside of the dike. At which point they can add new gravel, reassemble the production equipment and rebuild the dike walls.
