0518469912 | 2016-02-22 | Production Wells | Violations Noted | Regional Supervisor Tom Hill and I were at the site to investigate Complaint #5264. The lease road to the well and tank battery was in good repair and stable. The well, separator, and production tanks are located in a horse pasture, and are surrounded by wire fences. The well is produced with an electrically operated pumpjack. The production valves were open. At the wellhead, there had been an oil spill from a leaking stuffing box. The leaked oil has been covered with sawdust, which has absorbed the oil. The oil/sawdust combination needs to be removed. There is no mobile oil remaining. The surface casing head was below grade and not accessible. Safety concerns were identified at the electrical box that supplies power to the pumping unit. The conduit for the power supply for the pump jack motor has broken from its connection points in two locations. The first location is at the power box. The conduit has separated from the bottom of the electrical box exposing the electrical wires. The second location is at the motor, where the conduit has separator from the connector at the motor. Wires are exposed and have been wrapped in electrical tape. The well is equipped with a murphy switch that has a power supply. The electrical wires from the power box to the murphy switch are in galvanized conduit. The electrical box at the Murphy switch is a galvanized indoor box that needs to be replaced to a weatherproof box. Proper identification is posted on a production tank. The tank consists of two (2) 100- |

1281335023 | 2016-03-24 | Production Wells | No Violations | I was contacted by Mark Fluharty, pumper for Northwood, to ask if I could meet him at the location in order to inspect the work he has done to bring the well into compliance. On the day of my inspection I found that the contaminated soil and sawdust had been removed from around the wellhead. The seeping pick up valve at the 100 barrel tank had been replaced and the soil under the valve removed. The conduit for the electrical wires on the pumping unit motor was properly connected. The murphy switch had been removed and eliminated from the operating system. Northwood has addressed the specified issues required to bring this well into compliance. |
