Bull plug in the side of the 100BBl tank had residual weeping coming out of the threads. Battery will need clean. Well head is in good repair. Operator has removed oil debris from around pond that well leaked into. |

An oil leak around the tank battery of this well was noted by the zoning inspector. Arrived on site, there had been a release of oil at the tank battery. Oil staining on the board on board fence was apparent. Brine and oil was ponded out side of the dike north east corner of the battery approximately one barrel. A PVC pipe had been installed in the dike, no caps were on the pipe at the time of inspection. The operator had dug a ditch at the north east of the battery, to drain water away from the battery. Two booms had been placed across the ditch. A white PVC drain tile discharges into the ditch as well. There was crude oil staining in the ditch and on the PVC pipe. Walked drainage ditch along Sherman Road to County line road, no crude oil noted along road ditch. Pond on County line road was located. Crude oil, approximately 1 barrel in volume was on the surface of the pond at 12259 County Line road. Oil was also noted in the drainage ditch that the pond discharges into. Crude oil was stopped 50 feet before the road ditch on County Line road by vegetation. Scott Miller from Cutter Exploration arrived on site. Walked woods and oil well site with Scott attempting to determine how the oil made its way into the pond. Kurt Koller from Ohio EPA arrived on site. Drain tile was located in the ditch the operator dug to drain water away from the tank battery. Drain tile was followed back to the pond, 715 feet north west of the tank battery. John Groth the Land owner arrived on site, John gave approval to start clean up. Land owner wasnt sure if oil had been there a week or a month. Area had recently had a covering of over two feet of snow and ice. Residence is not Mr. Groths primary residence.
