Inspections Performed

Inspection ID Inspection Date Inspection Type Inspection Result Inspection Comments
1291859549 2010-11-17 Orphan No Violations A follow-up inspection was performed to check status of idle orphan well. Since the initial inspection, a permit number has now been assigned to the well determined to have been a dry and abandoned hole. The well status remains unchanged. Freshwater is being discharged from a valve located on top of 7 casing. Observed a large bubble periodically rising to the surface of standing water on backside of 7 casing. An attempt to dig around the outside of casing and determine source of bubbling below standing water was not successful. New photographs were obtained from this inspection. The landowner arrived at the well location and was informed that the title research has begun on the subject well and property. Note: A Landowner Right of Entry form has been completed and returned to the Division.
1294143687 2010-11-30 Administrative Inspection No Violations Orphan Well research at the Hocking County Courthouse.
1388056422 2010-08-09 Orphan No Violations The Division received an idle/orphan well complaint. The complainant states well leaking fluid onto ground surface in hay field at the junction of Big Pine Road and Cupp Road. An inspection of the well revealed bubbling around the backside of 7 casing with discharge of freshwater. Fluid rate measured: filled 120 ml bottle in 5 seconds. Low Range Quantabs showed acceptable level of 4 units equal to 166 ppm (mg/L) Cl-. The recommended US EPA aesthetic value is 250 ppm. No gas detected with meter. The landowner states that bubbling behind 7 csg began last fall when it got wet. The landowner further states that well has flowed since the 1940s. He states that gas company installed the clamp in the 1960s with plate welded and a vent. The landowner states this o/g well had been a water well for years. The Health Department had actually checked water in the 1960s. A GPS reading obtained from the inspection showed no current plotted well location. Verified well location with OFG map to show dry hole location. The well may have been converted to water well, but records do not support this claim. Notified Central Office and awaiting potential assignment of Permit No.
