Rochelle Shackle made a request through the Mount Vernon Office that her dad Robert Miller has an abandoned well on his farm and would like it checked to see if it would qualify for the orphan well program. I was accompanied to the well site by DOGRM Knox County Inspector Mark McCombs. We had difficulty finding the open wellbore in a harvested corn field. The wellbore has 10 inside diameter steel casing that is approximately 3 below ground level. The wellbore is not leaking fluids or gas. A depth counter reel with 20# test monofilament line and a 2 ounce sinker was utilized to gauge the wellbore depth. The depth was 176. Fluid was encountered at approximately 80. This well was permitted by Oxford Oil Company and drilling completed on 12-29-1985. Division records show a plug report of abandonment on 10-24-1987 . This plug job was not witnessed by the Division. Records show a final restoration was released by the Division on 08-18-1989. I took five photos and additional GPS readings of gates and possible right of entry points. Mr. Miller called Mark McCombs later this day and advised he wanted to withdrawal the orphan well application. Mr. Miller indicated that he would get fireclay and top off the wellbore.
