1308903917 2017-05-30 Orphan No Violations I performed a follow up inspection on the above location. The area of the leak still has gray fluid on the ground. The ground is very saturated with water.
1496761622 2017-05-25 Orphan No Violations The landowner, Wanda Dambrogio and her husband (deceased), bought this property in the early 1970s to build the current house on the property. They discovered gas leaking through the ground shortly after buying the property. The history is that the gas would sustain a small flame for about a day. They built a gazebo over this area due to this area not sustaining vegetation. Todays inspection showed gas bubbling through standing water and mulch under the gazebo. The majority of the gas was bubbling on the west side of the gazebo, gas was evident bubbling under the north side of the gazebo as well. Circular landscaping stones are over part of the ground under the gazebo. Casing is not visible. My gas detector showed 80% LEL, 0 ppm H2S, approximately 6 inches over the bubbling and was turned off to preserve the sensor. A gas odor is evident near the gazebo. The low range quantab did not detect registerable chlorides. Dissolved clay is in the standing water. It is not clear if this is clay from the soils in this area or clay that was used in the plugging of a well. The Ohio Fuel Gas map shows a plugged well identified as F-8018 in this location. Mrs. Dambrogio is planning on having the well exposed, vaulted and vented and applying to have the well plugged under the Orphan Well Program.
1497266747 2017-06-09 Orphan No Violations Todays inspection was conducted to check the area where gas was detected under the Dambrogios gazebo. The Ohio Fuel Gas map shows a well in this area. There are no known records for the well located on the Ohio Fuel Gas map at this time. The water is no longer laying in the area of the gazebo. A hissing noise can be heard in the area where the gas was bubbling through the standing water at the last inspection. My Sperian gas meter quickly registered 70% LEL/0 H2S and was turned off to preserve the sensor. Mrs. Dambrogio has contacted Moore Well Service about possibly excavating in the area to search for the source of the gas. Mrs. Dambrogio is considering have the well vaulted and vented if a well is found.
