0440914619 | 2014-06-30 | Production Wells | No Violations | Inspected production well on 06/30/2014. The tank battery consists of 3-100 bbl steel tanks located within an earthen dike. A small accumulation of paraffin was noted under the outtake valve of the middle tank that will need to be cleaned up. The tank battery is used by multiple wells; identification is clearly displayed for all wells utilizing it. The well is equipped with a pump jack with an electric motor. No identification is posted at the wellhead as required. The well is still shut-in from the oil spill over the winter, but no trace of the spill remains. Jason Klauss with Harley Drilling was notified of the need for clean-up at the tank battery and for identification at the wellhead and will address these issues as soon as possible. No other problems were noted at the time of the inspection. |

-103-2-4682-00-00) in Litchfield Twp. Medina County on 03/19/2014. Due to freeze/thaw action, riser pipe from the well broke and water got down hole, pushing oil to surface. Well was shut-in at the time, so it is believed that only 2-3 bbls oil were lost. The oil migrated through the field into a ditch, under Richman Rd. through a culvert, and into a drainage ditch/intermittent stream across the road; it was reported by a runner to township trustees and 911. Area fire departments and Haz-Mat responded, as well as Ohio and US EPA officials, and ODNR Fish and Wildlife officers. Soft and hard booms were set up in the field and ditches, diapers and peat were placed anywhere oil was pooled, siphon dams were installed, as well as additional wooden dams further down the creek as precautionary measures. Containment efforts were successful, as the oil did not make it into the Black River. Decision made by Ohio EPA official to shut-down operations for the night and resume clean-up efforts in the morning. | |
