0360842498 | 2010-09-09 | Orphan | No Violations | DMRM Central Office requested an inspection of this orphan well. An inspection revealed a slight change in well status, as gas detector showed a fluctuation in O2 level 20.7- 20.9 and LEL 0-4 at distance approx 5 away. As previously noted, the well consists of 8.625 casing above ground with no well head observed at surface. The top of casing contained an epoxy type material placed over a layer of possible fiber cloth to serve as a seal around a 3/4 valve. The valve contained a hairline crack and appeared to be source of gas release at this time. Opened valve and gas detector showed O2 level of 20.2 and LEL 16 for a brief period of time, but quickly dissipated. A 1/4 black plastic line with attached threads on end sticks up from ground located alongside the casing. Dug down approx 8 and was unable to find connection into the casing. Observed metal clamps installed on this line. No pressure, gas smelled or detected from this 3/4 line with valve on top of casing opened and closed. A landowner may have used this well for house gas at one time. 1/4 black plastic line observed along tree line near wood pile to include a 3/4 steel elbow, fitting with attached 1 black plastic cut on opposite end. At this location, an old fuel tank also exists approx 50 from well location. Notified Central Office of status and provided updated photographs from inspection. |
1238117886 | 2007-09-13 | Orphan | No Violations | A complaint was received on 9/13/2007 alleging that an idle/orphan well exists on property located at 53616 State Route 671, Londonderry, Ohio 45647. The complainant also states that gas is leaking from this well and believes the permit number is 243. An inspection revealed 8 5/8 inch casing above ground with a valve. An epoxy type material has been placed over top of the casing and around the valve. The valve was opened and a small amount of gas vented from the well. The closest well to this location is permit #6-243 (approximately 250 feet). RBDMS lists this well as plugged and abandoned. The well ownership will need to be researched at the Vinton County Courthouse. |
1473859164 | 2016-07-20 | Orphan | No Violations | Orphan well status inspection: Upon inspection, it is observed that the status of this well has not changed since the last inspection on 9/9/2010. The well is idle, incapable of production, and is orphan. The well is located 15 SW of the landowners driveway, 60 W of State Route 671, and 200 S of the landowners cabin. Access for the well is through the landowners driveway off of State Route 671. The well consists of 8.625 diameter surface casing and 1 diameter tubing with a ball valve. The 8.625 diameter surface casing rises 3 above the ground surface. The 1 diameter tubing is epoxied/cemented in place inside of the surface casing. There is no other equipment associated with the well. No gas odor was detected around the well and the PhD6 gas meter did not detect an ambient level of CH4 or LEL. Previous inspection reports indicate this well leaks gas on occasion. There are overhead power/telephone lines over the access road for the well, however they are high enough for a service rig and other equipment to pass under safely. No tree cutting and minimal site prep work would be needed to perform the plugging procedure. The current site evaluation matrix score for the well is 117. |
