1507649948 2017-10-03 Orphan No Violations Orphan well initial inspection: This well was referred to the Orphan Well Program by the Vinton County Inspector. Upon inspection, it is observed that this well is idle, incapable of production, and shows evidence of being plugged previously. The well consists of 8.5 inch diameter surface casing which is open to the atmosphere. There is gas bubbling through fluid which is present at the surface inside the casing. The fluid inside the casing is fresh water, as evidenced by a field test with a Hach Quantab titration strip. There is an obstruction inside the well casing just below ground surface that, when probed with a pvc pipe, is very soft and clay-like. There are no flow lines, tanks, or other production equipment associated with the well. RBDMS records for the well indicate that it was drilled to the Clinton Sandstone in 1918 and was plugged and abandoned with prepared clay in 1939 by the Ohio Fuel Gas Company. Further research will need to be done to determine if the well is located within the boundary of Columbia Gas Vinton Storage Field. There are no storage wells in this immediate area of Vinton County. Access to the well is off of Bray Hollow road through the open hay field where the well is situated. There are no overhead or buried utilities observed near that well that would obstruct access for plugging. Photos were taken of the location.
1731427704 2017-09-21 Production Wells No Violations I received a inspection request from the landowner where this well is located. The well consists of a 5.5 inch diameter casing that was full of water and bubbling what appeared to be methane. I was unable to obtain a reading on my gas meter. New coordinates were obtained. I have contacted ODNR Orphan well inspector Lynn Parkins with my finding.
