1161125025 2012-11-28 Orphan No Violations My inspection this day for purpose of entering well into I/O program. The well consists of 3.5 casing, standing 10 above ground level with a large gate valve on it, which turns into 2 steel line heading south. Locals have used gas from this well in the past and it is estimated well drilled 1900-1920, to the Berea sand. The well sits 30 off the edge of township road (Smith Rd.) and is 15-20 below the road, lying at river level. The well is 50-100 from the river and has undoubtedly been under water. There is a large void around the casing and remnants of 15-20 wooden casing still in place. Reportedly the well sits on a packer and the 3.5 may be the only casing in the hole. The access to the well is 1250 south thru the hay meadow and travels along the Little Muskingum River. Pictures, matrix done.
1351865880 2012-10-30 Orphan No Violations My inspection this day due to idle well to be entered into Orphan Well Program. This well sits 10-15 off the edge of Twp. Rd. 408 - Smith Rd. Well is reportedly a Berea gas well @1750 deep drilled in 1905-1910. This was the first well drilled on the lease - courthouse search has not found a lease to cover it. Later, in the 1950s, 4 more Peaker wells were drilled and E. Smith #3 - 1827 - is also being included in the well package. The well consists of a well head with 3 tubing on a packer. Also believe there to be 10 conductor/surface but not visible this day. This well had been used for house gas in the past but currently is sitting idle. To plug, packer and tubing will need to be pulled, then tubing ran back down to bottom to set plugs. It probably is a shot hole but no records have been found - shown only on old Ohio Fuel map. There are also still 2 Peaker wells on this same property that lie across the river - not easy to get to and will have to get to across other property from St. Rt. 26.
