The spill is on the SWN RU 10 Eastman Pad and was caused by a leak which developed in a production unit. SWN contacted the Department at 11:45 AM to report that the spill appears to be bigger than had been originally reported that estimates now place the volume in the vicinity of 100 plus gallons. SWN is in the process of shutting in the well and then will remove the production equipment to facilitate the ensuing remediation effort. Today, 9/30/13, Jon Sassi and I arrived on site and met Seth Tratthen, SWN Regulatory Analyst. |

ECB received a remediation report for the incident on October 18, 2013. The cellar was full of gravel and there was no gas detected at the perimeter of the cellar. The (9x5) annulus vent pipe was open and set up with a Taylor plug to check for pressure and the valve going to the production tank was closed. There was 481psi on the production casing and 340psi on the production line. I took a walk around the location and there were no obvious concerns noticed. I left the site at 15:20p.m. |
