Columbia found stray gas in yard but not in house. Owner said an abandoned well was reported to be buried beneath the blacktop beside the house,~3 feet from house. Well is under what is currently a closed-in storage area beneath steps at the side of the house. Checked basement of house for stray gas, none detected in air, drains etc. Advised homeowner to install methane detectors in storage area and inside basement.
2791222 Primary Facility 2018-10-18 Routine/Partial Inspection No Viols - Permanently Shut Down Visited site with Echelon to determine the best remediation plan for the stray gas detected in the front yard. In addition to stray gas hot spots in yard, a 6"-8" wide area between the small enclosure beneath the side steps and the cement slab retaining wall had stray gas readings of 7-8% gas.

Installed gravel and perforated PVC pipe on gravel, ran pipe up to side of house, converted to downspout pipe, ran up to roofline and capped with wind turbine. Piping began venting gas as soon as it was installed. Unable to excavate trench in front yard, due to rain. Will return tomorrow, weather permitting.
